Teignmouth Jazz Gig
The Blow-Up at The Bronx Bar on the 19th May 2016
The line up for this gig was Tom Unwin-Piano, Stig Olsen-Sax, Marcus Vergette-Bass, Gary Evans-Drums.
The Blow-Up played a set based on film score from the 60s and 70s, from films including 'Bullitt' and 'Get Carter'. There was video projection of some of the films on the walls to add to the atmosphere.
This band, for me, have always cut the mustard. You cannot but to become immersed in their music and the synergy between the players. The arrangements are very clever and the musicianship outstanding. Tom led the band on keys and played with great emotion and precision.
Interestingly, Gary on drums had not played with the band for 3 years. You would never have known, he nailed the whole thing together beautifully. Stig gave us some great, gutsy sax and Marcus underpinned it all sensitively on bass.
There was a very appreciative audience and judging by the applause and comments at the end of the gig, it went down a storm.
The Blow-Up are appearing in this years Teignmouth Jazz & Blues Festival in November.
